We are now accepting grant applications for both 3rd and 4th quarter.
The deadline for these applications is December 15, 2008.
Who is eligible?
• Your organization must be a "no-kill" organization or be working toward becoming a "no-kill" organization. We understand that shelters in some areas may currently be unable to become "no-kill" shelters due to lack of funding and extreme pet overpopulation. Often, these are the shelters that need the most help, which is why we have decided to open up the application process to these shelters. However, we do require that you provide us with documentation that demonstrates your commitment to this goal.
You must send us your Mission Statement along with Planning Documents, which detail your organization's strategy for achieving this goal as well as the current programs and measures in place. There are no limits as to what these planning documents can contain. We know that you have spent a lot of time envisioning a better future for these animals, so we hope that compiling this information will be an easy task for you.
• Your organization must actively practice and promote Cesar’s methods. Has your staff mastered the walk? Does your organization promote balanced, calm-assertive leadership? Do you educate adopters on "Exercise, Discipline, Affection?” Do you take energy levels into consideration before placing a dog in a new home? Do you encourage those considering relinquishing a dog to look to Cesar's website and products for help? Write an essay of 1,000 words or less sharing your story!
• Your organization must be tax-exempt as determined by section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. A current tax ID number must be provided in order to be considered.
• Your organization must be willing to display materials about your affiliation with The Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation. If you have a website, you must display web banner on the home page. If you have a physical shelter, you must display a “Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation Supported Organization” decal in a prominent place near the front of the building, such as a glass door or window. In the future, shelter kits will be provided for you to display.
What programs does the Millan Foundation Fund?
We fund programs in the following areas:
1. Canine rehabilitation or "people training" which facilitates the adoption of rescued and abandoned dogs. For example, a program in which canine professionals work with dogs that have behavior issues or train potential adopters to handle a rehabilitated dog.
2. Spay and neuter. For example, programs which provide subsidized, low-cost, or free spay and neuter services to the general public.
3. Humane education for children. For example, a program which teaches compassion or proper pet care to local schools or through on-site visits.
How much grant funding is available to our organization?
If your application is approved by The Cesar and Ilusion Millan Foundation, your organization is eligible for up to $1500.00 annually. At the end of each year, you may/must reapply for funding.
What percentage of funding do you earmark for each of the three areas you fund?
